5 Things We Learned About Spurs During Crushing Defeat Against Bayer Leverkusen

Spurs’ miserable run at Wembley stadium continued as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen, leaving the Lilywhites in a bad position in Group E, sitting in third place after four games. Here are three things that we learned about Spurs during the crippling defeat.

1) Spurs are missing Harry Kane

Vincent Janssen is a very different striker to Harry Kane. He likes the ball played to his feet so that he can hold up the play and lay a ball off for his teammates, and there is nothing wrong with this at all, but there is a feature of Harry Kane’s style of play that Spurs are definitely missing at the moment.

A couple of times during the game against Leverkusen, the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen were striding forward through the middle, and could have done with somebody making a run in behind the defence.

Janssen is the sort of striker that will always want the ball to feet, and doesn’t quite make the runs in behind the defence that Harry Kane would do. This would have been something that the likes of Alli or Eriksen could have done with on Wednesday night. You could see that they were looking to play this ball in behind the defence, and they will be gald to see Harry Kane back against Arsenal on Sunday.
