Mauricio Pochettino should certainly instruct his defence to stop playing the ball out from the back. It landed Spurs in enough trouble on Wednesday night, and should be abandoned as soon as possible.
Playing the ball out from the back can be a very beneficial tactic, but the Spurs defensive unit need to learn when to just get rid of the ball. The ball was given away needlessly in dangerous positions a couple of times last night, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men can consider themselves lucky not be a further two goals down, and could have easily have been if Leverkusen had taken their chances. These mistakes will certainly be punished against Arsenal on Sunday.
This is clearly an instruction from the manager here. The abandonment of common footballing sense to get rid of the ball is completely overridden by this idea of playing the ball out from the back, and could land Spurs a lot of trouble in the near future coming up against very clinical opposition.
