Report: Spurs target Premier League midfielder to replace Hojbjerg

Tottenham Hotspur are ready to engage in a fierce tussle over the acquisition of the highly sought-after midfielder, Douglas Luiz, in the upcoming transfer window according to The Sun.

The spotlight shines on Spurs as they set their sights on the talented Aston Villa midfielder, Douglas Luiz, to bolster their squad. However, their pursuit comes with a crucial condition – the potential departure of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, their current midfield stalwart. The 27-year-old Hojbjerg’s style seems somewhat incompatible with the attacking philosophy of new boss Ange Postecoglou, which has put his future at Tottenham in doubt.

On the other side of the North London divide, the Gunners are not ones to be left behind in the race for Luiz’s signature. Arsenal, keen admirers of the Brazilian midfielder, have been eyeing him since the previous summer transfer window. While their efforts were in vain then, they are determined to make a fresh and assertive move this time around, vying for the versatile 25-year-old’s services.

Douglas Luiz’s importance to Aston Villa was acknowledged as he committed his future to the club by signing a new contract at Villa Park last year. However, the intensified interest from Tottenham and Arsenal could potentially sway his decision.

Aston Villa are likely to demand serious money for Luiz though, especially considering they themselves will be viewed as competitors with Tottenham for European football next season.

According to the same report, talks between Tottenham and Atletico Madrid for Hojbjerg’s potential transfer continue, while his former club, Bayern Munich, has also expressed interest in bringing him back.
