Report: Top 4 means Spurs set to beat Arsenal to £70m striker signing

Tottenham are set to reap the rewards for finishing above Arsenal should they complete the job on Sunday at Norwich, according to reports emerging today.

The Gunners and Spurs appear to have had many of the same transfer targets this summer, but the club that secured top four would always have an edge both financially and in terms of being able to offer the player elite European competition.

Spurs look to take advantage of that advantage by signing one of the most highly rated forwards in Europe in Lautaro Martinez of Inter Milan (The Mirror). Lautaro was a target for Spurs last summer and now with Antonio Conte in charge, they will only want him more given he was so successful last season under Conte’s stewardship.

Lautaro would add even more clinical edge to the team’s already devastating attack. It would also somewhat safeguard the team if Harry Kane did indeed move elsewhere. But Spurs will want to keep hold of Kane whilst adding someone of Lautaro’s quality. A front three of Son, Kane and Lautaro is a scary proposition, especially with the likes of Kulusevski rotating in.

At 24, Lautaro is experienced but still with his prime years ahead of him. His goal record in Italy is stunning, with 21 Serie A goals in his 34 appearances this season. He’s also a very hard worker and contributes defensively as well as in the build up phases.
