Report: Tottenham set to make bid for £26m-rated Premier League stalwart

Tottenham are preparing an exciting move to try and sign a Premier League midfielder according to reports in England today.

As well as Aston Villa, Spurs are set to make a move to sign Southampton central midfielder James Ward-Prowse, according to The Telegraph

The 26-year-old midfielder has become one of the Premier League’s finest central midfield players and is valued at £26million.

Ward-Prowse has been at Southampton his entire career, since he was 9 years old. He’s played 269 senior games for the club and picked up 8 caps for England.

Southampton will be reluctant to sell given they have already parted with Danny Ings in a £30million move to Aston Villa.

Southampton have also tonight accepted a £15million bid for Jannick Vestergaard from Leicester City.

With that in mind, Tottenham would probably need to be bidding close to £40million to persuade Southampton to part with Ward-Prowse. They have no need to sell and will be conscious that if they lose Ings, Vestergaard and Ward-Prowse, it could put them in danger of relegation.

Spurs appear to still be looking to strengthen their team in defence, midfield and attack before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.
