Report: Tottenham ‘in talks’ to beat Arsenal to signing of exciting £38m-rated midfielder

It’s looking likely that it will be another busy final week in the transfer window for Daniel Levy.

The latest rumours suggest a new midfielder could be on the way in.

Tottenham have opened talks with the representatives of Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar according to a report today from Sky Sports

Aouar has long been linked with a move away from the French club and now Tottenham look to have been proactive and taken the lead in the race to sign the technical midfielder, ahead of Arsenal who have also been linked.

Aouar, who is valued at £37.8m, appears to now be available on a loan move with an option to buy.

That presents a significant opportunity for Spurs to ‘try before you buy’ with a very highly rated young midfielder. The option to buy could be secured at around the £25million mark, less than half what Spurs paid Lyon for Tanguy Ndombele.

Aouar would provide Nuno Espirto Santo with plenty of tactical flexibility, able to play in a few positions. He is not a natural number 10, but can play in that position and in a deeper central role. He is also capable of featuring from the left side of midfield.
