Transfers: Tottenham eye £20m swoop for highly-rated Lyon defender

When will Tottenham start their summer rebuild?

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Lyon defender Joachim Andersen is interesting Tottenham this summer. Andersen spent the season on loan at Fulham and despite the London club getting relegated, he was impressive in the Premier League.

Andersen turns 25 next week, so his peak years are ahead of him and he’s crucially already proven he is capable of performing in the Premier League. That quality is an important one, especially for a defender. We’ve seen many defenders arrive from other leagues and struggle to adapt to the pace and physicality of the English division.

But it won’t be an easy acquisition to make for Tottenham with several European clubs said to be trying to sign the Danish international.

Tottenham will want to sort out their managerial situation before making signings, but equally will not want to miss out on great opportunities by a delay in appointing a new manager. They also will not want to rush appointing the new manager and making a mistake. It’s an important balance for Daniel Levy to lead this summer. The signing of Andersen would be an intelligent one. He’s valued at close to £20million by transfermarkt and it would probably cost about that to sign him.
