Report: Tottenham being encouraged to beat Arsenal and Liverpool to signing of £35m-rated Premier League midfielder

According to a report in the Sheffield Star, Tottenham are ready to rival the likes of Arsenal to the signing of Sheffield United midfielder, Sander Berge.

Despite Sheffield United being on the verge of relegation, they are unlikely to sell their star midfielder cheap, with a big queue of clubs rumoured to be interested in the bidding. The Sheffield Star more recently say his club have slapped a £35million asking-price on him.

The likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have been linked with Berge in the past too, so Tottenham will have to jump a crowded queue to secure the player.

The 6ft 5’ midfielder combines great dribbling abilities with strong passing and physical skills, and aged just 23, already plays with maturity beyond his years.

Ruled out for much of this season due to injury, Berge has only managed 12 starts for Sheffield United. But in the second half of the 2020/21 season, Berge proved to be a vital player for Sheffield, helping them finish comfortably in the top half of the Premier League.

Tottenham currently have an array of central midfield options, but a player with Premier League experience like Berge could be an invaluable addition.

We’ve seen how Hojberg has managed to hit the ground running since moving from Southampton, whilst in contrast, Tanguy Ndombele has struggled to find consistency and rhythm in his play since moving from Ligue 1.

Berge is a player who likes to play with the game in front of him and he could provide another option at the base of the midfield. Seeing how Tottenham struggled to control games against both Arsenal and Dinamo Zagreb recently, adding a more physical, Premier League proven player, is likely to help.
