Report: Conte and Patrici want to bring one of Europe’s best playmakers to Spurs for free

Tottenham could land a bargain midfield signing due to an expiring contract, according to reports in Italy.

Now we already know Tottenham are keen to shop in Serie A, given the new Director of Football’s transfer approach to date. It seems as if that trend will continue with new boss Antonio Conte gazing across at some of his former players in Milan.

One situation the club could take great advantage of is that of Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic. His contract expires in 2022 and according to TuttoMercatoWeb, an extension to that deal is not close. That means in just a couple of months, foreign clubs like Tottenham will be free to talk to Brozovic about signing a pre-contract agreement.

It has more recently been reported that Brozovic is not even responding to Inter Milan’s calls about a new contract. If true, it could be that Brozovic has a move abroad fixed into his mind.

Brozovic is moving into the eve of his career now, about to turn 29. But his game does not rely on pace and he would add important qualities to this Spurs midfield for a number of years.

He’s been very impressive for a resurgent Inter Milan since 2015, playing 210 games for the Italian Champions. He also brings significant experience from his national team, racking up 69 caps for Croatia.
