Vincent Janssen arrived from AZ Alkmaar last season for a fee of £17m with high hopes of succeeding in the Premier League. However, his debut season in English football has not gone to plan. The Dutchman netted just once from open play last season in the league in what was a goalscoring nightmare for Janssen.

He was drafted in last summer to provide backup for Harry Kane, and understood that he would receive limited chances in the first team with the prolific nature of first choice striker Kane. On the other hand, he would have expected more playing time than he has received under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The striker admitted that he is unhappy with his situation at Spurs and would ideally like to be given more of an opportunity to prove his worth to the manager and the Tottenham faithful. Well, if he was unhappy a couple of days ago, then he will be distraught on deadline day.

It seems that Spurs have lined up a replacement for him in the form of Fernando Llorente. The Lilywhites have had a bid of around £15m accepted for the Swansea City striker, he could complete his move to Tottenham later today.

This deal could trigger Janssen’s exit from Spurs, who is currently on international duty with the Netherlands, preparing for tonight’s World Cup qualifier against France. Whether he is in the knowledge that he could be on the verge of a move away from Spurs is anybody’s guess.

West Brom and Stoke are reportedly interested in Janssen and could end up paying top dollar for the Spurs misfit’s services. The Sun report that West Brom are ready to offer £23m for the Dutchman. Daniel Levy has a record for making clubs pay over the odds for Spurs deadwood. Could he have played yet another blinder here?
