This is a rumour that has gathered momentum in the last couple of hours. Spurs are looking to strengthen their midfield, and could use Sanchez in a deeper role as a playmaker, or they could play him further up the pitch behind the striker if he were to sign.

Sky Sports understand that Spurs and West Ham are the two clubs interested in taking on the Barcelona midfielder and that Tottenham are the favourites to make the signing, but they are unsure whether this will be in a loan deal or on a permanent deal.

Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to strengthen his midfield before the end of the summer transfer window. This is the only area he has failed to bring reinforcements in if you consider the Llorente deal as done. Gomes appears to have a lot of talent and would fit in perfectly at Spurs, either in a deeper or more attacking role in the midfield.
