Tottenham star Christian Eriksen has spoken to the London Evening Standard about how Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods are really starting to help Spurs in matches. It is believed that the Argentine’s training consists of a lot of pressing and fitness, this has helped the team go right to the end of matches, scoring late goals in many of our latest away matches. High pressing was also a very important part of the winning goal on Sunday against Swansea.

“Maybe the work we did in pre-season is starting to bear fruit. You’ve seen in recent games that we’re able to go 100 per cent at the end of the game. Earlier in the season, we wouldn’t have been fit enough to go like that the whole game.

“Of course you have periods where the opposition have more of the ball and you have to play differently but we have the confidence and power to keep going for 90 minutes. We’re not allowing the opposition to score easy goals anymore.

“We still need to be more consistent but if we can get results like we did at Swansea, we’re on the right track. When you score a late goal, it gives everyone an extra feeling and there is definite belief in the squad.”

Eriksen also agrees with Pochettino’s comments that he made a few days ago about being a more consistent team.

Fitness will obviously be key to the Spurs side as we enter the busy festive period, starting with a tough game against Newcastle at White Hart Lane on Wednesday. Tottenham currently sit seventh in the table, just two points off rivals Arsenal, as just four points off of a Champions League spot, despite the shaky start to this season.
