Report: Mourinho pushing for Spurs to sign French midfield maestro

Tottenham will have to be creative in this summers transfer market, as the world comes to terms with Coronavirus and its impact on football.

But one player Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of is Marseille midfielder Maxime Lopez according to Estadio Deportivo. They suggest that Spurs, along with West Ham are two interested Premier League clubs. The report goes on to say that Spurs are hoping to take advantage of Marseille’s financial needs and could offer around £10million.

So who is Maxime Lopez? At Marseille from the age of 12, Lopez has come through the academy and become an integral part of the French clubs midfield. With 106 games for the senior team so far, he stans at just 5ft 6′ tall, but certainly makes his presence known on the pitch.

But Lopez, at least on the surface, doesn’t appear to be a signing that would significantly improve this Tottenham side. Considering Ndombele has struggled to cement a place in the team, Lopez has been much less effective in Ligue 1 and considering his even smaller frame, is likely struggle with the physicality of the Premier League.

Lopez is known for his excellent passing ability, averaging a 90% success rate, but he struggles in duels, both aerially and in the tackle. It may only be £10million, but Spurs should probably be looking elsewhere.
