Spurs started as they mean to go on in 2017 with a thumping 4-1 win over Watford on New Year’s Day. A Harry Kane brace and a Dele Alli double helped Spurs on their way to victory in a contest that was over by half-time. Here are the player ratings from the 4-1 win.
Hugo Lloris- 7
Hardly had a save to make all game. He will be disappointed not to keep the clean sheet, but in the end it has no significance at all.
Eric Dier- 7
It was once again a back three deployed by Mauricio Pochettino, and I thought Eric Dier had a good game. Not only was his defending good, but he looked to pose a threat going forward, successful or not.
Toby Alderweireld- 7
A welcome return back into the side for Toby Alderweireld. He had a solid game and managed to keep the threat posed by Deeney and Ighalo to a minimum.
Kevin Wimmer- 7
Wimmer slotted into the side well at Vicarage Road. He is a good squad player for Spurs, and on his day is a good defender. I think Spurs should keep hold of him during January and for the rest of the season.
Kieran Trippier- 9
Outstanding. Trippier had an amazing game in the absence of the suspended Kyle Walker. He created two chances, and created two goals as a result. A excellent performance from the 26-year-old, who should be given more chances in the first team.
Danny Rose- 7
Didn’t quite hit the heights of previous games, but still looked solid. He looked a little tired, and it was a smart move to replace him with Ben Davies ahead of the crunch clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night.
