3 Reasons Why Spurs Must Avoid Signing This German Youngster In January

3) He is not ready for the physical challenge of the Premier League

Although some may argue differently, the Premier League remains one of the toughest leagues in the world in terms of physicality, and it takes a certain type of player to succeed in English football.

Not only must a player pull his weight in terms of goals, assists and chances created for teammates, but he must look to make tackles all over the pitch and make himself a physical presence. The fact that Max Meyer won just 11 tackles over the course of the whole of last season in the Bundesliga suggests to me that his numbers would certainly not increase should he make a switch to English football.

I have previously directed criticism towards Christian Eriksen and other players for pulling out of tackles and not being strong enough, but winning just 11 tackles all season is very much below par. Putting that stat in context, Eriksen, who I have criticised for not winning enough tackles, managed to win 41 tackles last season, nearly four times more than Meyer.

It is for those three reasons why I believe that Mauricio Pochettino should avoid signing Max Meyer from Schalke in the January transfer window.
