An Awful Performance! Vlad Chiriches Stats v Aston Villa

Spurs put in a woeful performance at White Hart Lane as they fell to a crushing 1-0 defeat to Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa on Saturday.

However, there was one player that stood out for me in the defeat to have underperformed, and that was the right-back, Vlad Chiriches.

Chiriches arrived as a part of the summer seven of 2013, and has failed to nail down a first team spot under Mauricio Pochettino, and previous managers AVB and Tim Sherwood.

But Chiriches has been given a chance in the team in the last couple of weeks, and he has not taken the opportunity with open arms, putting in an under-par shift to say the least against Villa.

The right-back was replaced by debutant DeAndre Yedlin in the 79th minute, and there were a few cheers ringing round the ground as the Romanian left the pitch.

Squawka Performance Score: -41

This was far worse than the rest of the defensive unit, the second worst performer being Eric Dier, who earned a score of -9. Then came Federico Fazio with a score of 12, and then Danny Rose with a score of 19. Funnily enough, Squawka were not the only people to think he had a shocker.

WhoScored Rating: 5.26

Again, WhoScored reckon the right-back performed much worse than the rest of the defence. Eric Dier was given a rating of 6.24, Danny Rose, 6.98 and Federico Fazio was handed a score of 7.17.

Immediately, you can quite clearly see that Chiriches performed much worse than the rest of the defence, and the stats of his game against Aston Villa only back this up.

The Romanian managed to complete 75% of his passes, which is good, but he failed to make any tackles, missing three. Chiriches took no shots, and crossed the ball twice, creating a chance on neither of those occasions.

Chirches only won 20% of his aerial duels, although he could be forgiven for this as many were lost to Christian Benteke. The right-back also made three clearances.
