We may still have 8 games left to play but it appears like the club are already starting preparations for next season. It has been reported that Spurs will not go out to any long-haul friendlies during pre-season in the summer.

Pochettino did not want his summer of work disrupted by a long-haul pre-season tour, which prompted the agreement with Levy for the squad to make any big journeys before the end of May. Tottenham have agreed to play the Malaysia national team at the Shah Alam Stadium on May 27 before flying on to Australia to face Sydney FC three days later.

The Spurs players will be released for their summer break after the match in Australia and Pochettino’s plan is for his players to largely remain in England for pre-season. Any friendlies against European opposition will be scheduled so that Tottenham can fly in and out for the matches, rather than spend long periods of time away.

Pochettino believes he will be given the best chance of preparing his players for another busy season by not exposing them to long-distance travel weeks before the Premier League campaign kicks off.

This is both interesting and encouraging news. Not so much because of the lack of friendlies but because Levy has given Pochettino what the Argentinian wanted, a full pre-season in England training and getting his squad fully prepared. Obviously ;ast pre-season was disrupted by the World Cup with some players like Vertonghen, Dembele, Bentaleb didn’t play a single minute of pre-season.

So with a whole summer to train the current squad, plus youngsters that Poch wants to bring back from loan and any new signings made will have a good length of time to get bedded into Spurs under Pochettino.
