Roberto Soldado at last broke his goal-drought today, not through sheer luck, but through self-belief and the extra hard work he’s been putting in and down to the confidence of manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Pochettino has been working behind-the-scenes with Soldado, together he’s been helping ‘Bobby’ work in extra training sessions, these sessions have been designed specifically just to practice on shooting and finding the target, in the hope that the £26m Spaniard would at last start to come good and he certainly did today.

This shows that Soldado at last has the full backing of a manager which hasn’t enjoyed since arriving at N17 last summer and it also shows that Pochettino knows Soldado is prepared to work the extra mile, the commitment that the new boss wants to see from everyone in his side, which will create trust between both player and manager.

If Roberto can build on his goal today with more goals in the next several games then the confidence will start to flow through the former Valencia star, the Argentine’s faith in giving him his chance will be fully rewarded and maybe he will pay off the huge fee that we brought him to England for, which was to be a great centre-forward for the Lilywhites, which today’s evidence shows could well happen after all.
