Tottenham must move fast to beat PSG to signing of perfect defender

Spurs are facing a potential summer rebuild again as Jose Mourinho looks to leave his mark on the squad ahead of next season.

A few months ago Sky Sports reported that Tottenham were looking to strengthen the right back area of their squad – with Norwich’s Max Aarons and Leipzig’s Nordi Mukiele amongst their main targets. Aarons is likely to command a huge fee and is so far unproven at the highest level, so for me Mukiele should be the main target.

Aged just 22, the 6ft 2 defender is capable of covering at centre back as well as starring as a right full back. Despite his young age the player is improving with every game and has excelled in the Champions League and helped Leipzig towards the top of the Bundesliga table. A senior call up for France is surely just a matter of time away, even with the plethora of young talent France currently boasts.

But any attempt to sign Mukiele may now be far more complex following the news that PSG have reportedly made the player their priority. PSG certainly need a new right back and as a young French player, Nordi would certainly fit the bill.

The potential of both a bidding war and an appeal war with PSG for the player does not sound like something Spurs would come out on top in.

So if Spurs are to sign this quality young and versatile player, then they must move quickly in the market.
