Barcelona forward ‘certain’ to leave as Tottenham eye January bid

Tottenham have not had the best start to the season to say the least, and so the club will have one eye on the January transfer window, which is now under two months away.

News coming from Spain suggests Barcelona have reportedly made midfielder Carles Alena available for loan in January.

Whether Tottenham want to sign a player just on a loan remains to be seen, but Alena is a player of great quality and potential. If Spurs want to sign the player permanently, Barcelona could well point to his €75million release clause, a figure there’s no way the North London club would be willing to pay at this point.

But a temporary deal, with an option to buy could be an option for Spurs, and something that Barca may be open too, considering they have used Alena very sparingly to date.

Spurs haven’t looked very exciting going forward this season, with Son Heung-Min failing to hit the heights of the previous campaign and Lucas Moura well off the pace.

Alena could add something fresh to the team and with Eriksen’s time at the club all but over, Spurs would really benefit from another technically gifted attack-minded midfielder, to link up with the likes of Son, Moura and Harry Kane.

Without Eriksen Spurs can look a little out of ideas going forward, especially with Dele Alli out of sorts.
