Spurs Braced For Star’s Summer Exit, Pochettino Eyeing Premier League Replacement

With contract talks stalling a little, Spurs could see star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris leave White Hart Lane in the summer, and Mauricio Pochettino is already looking at replacements for the Frenchman.

Reports have previously suggested that Daniel Levy is unwilling to pay anybody a six-figure salary at Spurs, but has just reportedly agreed a £100,000 per week salary on a new contract for key striker Harry Kane. Despite budging once, Levy is unlikely to pay anybody upwards of the £100,000 per week at White Hart Lane.

Lloris has admirers from Real Madrid and PSG, and if Spurs are unable to agree on terms of a new contract, they could see him move on in the summer. Braced for his exit, according to The Sun, Pochettino is looking at signing Jordan Pickford from Sunderland. Joe Hart has been a touted as another potential replacement, but Spurs would be unable to match the wages he received at Manchester City.

Would the Sunderland keeper be a good replacement for Hugo Lloris?

In terms of clean sheets and conceding goal, Lloris seems to be the better of the two goalkeepers. The Frenchman has kept five clean sheets and conceded just nine goals in twelve matches, whereas the 22-year-old has kept just one clean sheet and conceded twenty goals in the same amount of games.

However, it seems that the Englishman has been the busier of the two goalkeepers. This season, Pickford has made 46 saves, Lloris has made just 20 saves. On the other hand, Lloris has made more saves per goal conceded, the 29-year-old making 2.50 saves per goal let in, Pickford making 2.30 per goal. Not too much to split them.

Hugo Lloris’ distribution accuracy is higher that Pickford, the Frenchman maintaining a 74% accuracy rate, whereas Pickford is only accurate on 47% of occasions. Pickford does seem to be busier in terms of catches and punches. Lloris has made just 2 punches and 26 catches this season, whereas Pickford has made 11 punches and 46 catches.

Both keepers have been extremely influential to their respective teams this season. Pickford has kept Sunderland in many games this season and Lloris has made many key saves for Spurs. Would Pickford be a good replacement for Lloris? I’m not so sure whether he is as good as Loris, but for the price Spurs are likely to have to pay and the money they might receive for Lloris, it would be an extremely sensible signing.
