Spurs failed to take their chances as they managed to salvage a point late on at The Hawthornes. Former Spur Nacer Chadli fired West Brom into the lead eight minutes before time, but Dele Alli managed to snatch a point in the 89th minute to maintain Spurs’ Premier League unbeaten record.
However, the most disappointing thing about the trip to the Midlands might not be the dropped two points, but the fact that Belgian centre-back Toby Alderweireld was stretchered off midway through the second half, unable to continue with a knee injury.
The injury comes at a worrying time for Spurs with a key few weeks coming up in the season. First of all, Spurs travel to Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League in midweek in a crunch fixture before making the trip down to Bournemouth on the following Saturday.
Those two fixtures are followed by a league cup trip to Liverpool, before four days later hosting Leicester City at White Hart Lane. Spurs then return to Wembley for the second time this season to host Bayer Leverkusen in the second instalment of a crucial double-header in the Champions League.
Finally, before the international break, Spurs make the short trip across North London to Arsenal in the first weekend of November. So looking at the fixture list, you can understand why Spurs fans are so worried by the injury of Alderweireld.
Mauricio Pochettino has said that the Belgian will be assessed in the next couple of days, and this is how Spurs fans reacted to the injury news.
