Stats: Tottenham’s 3 Best Performers vs. Crystal Palace

Tottenham picked up their first three points of the season at home to Crystal Palace after Victor Wanyama scored a crucial late goal. Spurs had been pushing all afternoon but couldn’t find an opening until the final 10 minutes of the game. We were impressed with a few individuals, and these are the Fresh Football top three Spurs performers of the week.

That man Victor. When it just looked like it wouldn’t be our day, who was going to pop up with the goal? Well you wouldn’t have bet too much on it being Wanyama. Not only did he score the match-winning goal, but the Kenyan midfielder excelled throughout. Confident and assured in possession, he boasted a 92.6% pass success rate. He played alongside Eric Dier but certainly looked the superior holding midfielder, making 74 touches compared to Dier’s 61. Wanyama also won an aerial duel and was named the WhoScored Man of the Match with an impressive match rating of 7.93. Defensively he made 3 tackles, 5 clearances and 1 block. When Dembele returns to the starting line-up I would not be surprised to see Eric dropped if Wanyama can continue these fine performances. Wanyama seems to have more to his game than Dier, since the Englishman has been asked to play in a more advanced role he has struggled to make an impact. Replacing him with Wanyama is in no way saying that Dier is no use to us, he is a good player than can play in defence and midfield and he will remain vital for this squad as we play in numerous competitions this season.
