Although Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies are perhaps not first choice full-backs for Spurs, they have still had positive effects on the squad since their arrivals from Burnley and Swansea respectively.

They have provided much-needed squad competition in the full-back department, challenging Kyle Walker and Danny Rose very closely for the first-team spots. As a result of this, we have seen arguably better performances from Walker and Rose, and both men have nailed down their places in the England starting eleven, as we have seen in Euro 2016.

If Wanyama does put pen to paper, then he will provide the same squad competition as the full-backs have done. Yes, he might not play exactly the same role as Trippier and Davies in that the Kenyan might look to steal a first team spot from Eric Dier on a more regular basis, but this could result in higher performances from both Mousa Dembele and Eric Dier.
