Spurs Look For Win-Win Situation In Pursuit Of Toffees Midfielder

The Daily Mail claim that Tottenham are keen on signing Everton midfielder James McCarthy, and they could use Aaron Lennon as part of any potential deal.

McCarthy is reportedly becoming frustrated at Everton, after the club have so far failed to approach him regarding a new and improved contract, which is exactly what the player wants, and Spurs are ready to pounce, and want to launch a bid in the coming weeks.

The Mail report that Morgan Schneiderlin was Spurs’ primary target, but now the Frenchman seems to be heading to Manchester United, McCarthy is now Tottenham’s preferred choice.

Aaron Lennon could be involved in a deal that would see McCarthy move to Spurs and Lennon move the other way, making his loan move permanent after impressing for Everton in his loan spell last season. The Mail also add that Younes Kaboul may be involved in a surprising deal.

This would of course be a win-win deal for Spurs and potentially Everton. The Toffees would get the player they want and a frustrated player sold, whilst Tottenham would get a surplus-to-requirements player off their books for good.

McCarthy still has three years left on his contract, and Everton are keen to keep hold of the midfielder, but Levy is ready to make a ‘substantial’ bid, but know their limits and do not want to end up paying too much.
