Tottenham are reportedly looking to sign Republic of Ireland international and Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The midfielder did not travel with the Everton squad that faced Hull on New Year’s Day, a game that they lost 2-0 at the KC Stadium. This was due to a hamstring injury.

The former Wigan player has become frustrated with talks over a new contract, or should I say lack of talks of a new, improved contract.

Roberto Martinez has hinted that he could discuss a new contract with McCarthy, after his good performances in recent weeks. However, if talks do not begin to materialise soon, Tottenham are ready to pounce and could possibly put in a bid.

Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell is an admirer of the midfielder, and he believes that he could fit in perfectly into the Totteham squad and could easily employ the pressing system that the Argentine is currently looking to implement into the Spurs starting eleven.
