With seven days to go in the transfer window, time is running out for Spurs to make any deals happen this winter, with the club taking a very pragmatic approach so far, but this could be about to change.

Tottenham are reportedly very keen on signing Roma striker Mattia Destro, according to reports in Italy. But the Club aren’t willing to pay an extortionate amount to bring him to the club, which has proved to be a stumbling block, but there could well be a solution for that.

Romanian defender Vlad Chiriches, who nearly joined Roma in the summer, with the Italians still interested, could be used a part-exchange in a deal for Destro. With Vlad struggling to hold a first-team place, a move would be good for him and will also help in our pursuit of a striker.

The 23-year-old Italy international would relish the chance to showcase his talents in the Premier League after scoring five goals in 16 appearances for Roma this season. With uncertainty surrounding the futures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, Pochettino is keen to bring in his own players as he looks to help Tottenham challenge for major silverware.

If the deal could be done before the deadline in a week’s time, it would provide much needed firepower up front and remove some deadwood from the squad at the same time, signalling intent by Spurs, of the ambitions of winning trophies again at Spurs.
