Report: Tottenham in shock talks to sign another central defender

Tottenham are set to sign Atalanta defender Cristian Romero for nearly £50million. But their central defensive signings may not be over yet.

That is according to a report from Football Insider. They claim that Nuno Espirito Santo is looking to be reunited with Wolves defender Connor Coady.

Coady would be a bit of a shock signing for Spurs. However he was a stalwart for Nuno over the last three seasons, missing just one Premier League game. Whilst he’s not the most gifted defender, he is known for his ability on the ball and his leadership qualities.

Rated at £22.5million market value on transfermarkt, the report from Football Insider does not specify how much Coady would like to cost the club.

Toby Alderweireld has left the club this summer and the interest in Coady will create doubt over the future of Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez.

Tottenham are likely to soon have a large amount of cash to reinvest in the squad. That’s because Harry Kane is continuing to miss training with the club and looks to be forcing a move to Manchester City.

Daniel Levy will be desperate to keep hold of Kane, but eventually he is likely to have to part with his captain.

What will be crucial for Spurs is how much they manage to secure for Kane and then how well they reinvest that money.

The signing of Coady could be a good one at the right price, but anything north of £25million seems excessive.
