Door open for Spurs to sign £45m-rated Premier League star this summer

Tottenham appear to be in the market for a new central defender following the departure of Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham need to sell players this summer and they would be willing to listen to offers of £45m for Issa Diop.

That is a significant drop on the clubs reported valuation of the player at £75m when Manchester United were linked with him last summer. Sky Sports go on to say that at least two Premier League clubs want to sign him in this window. That could be Spurs, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City or many others, considering the current apetite for new central defenders from many Premier League clubs.

What we do know is that back in December 2019, Sky Sports reported that Tottenham were interested in bringing Diop to the club.

Diop would certainly add quality to the Spurs defence. Aged just 23, Diop already has significant Premier League experience and is rated amongst the best young defenders in the division. £45million may be difficult to achieve for Spurs though – who are thought to be exploring swap deals in order to cure their squad deficiencies. Earlier today we reported on the rumoured Ndombele / Skrniar swap deal.
