Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal for FC Koln centre-back Kevin Wimmer, according to reports in Germany.

The 22-year-old has featured regularly for his Bundesliga outfit this season, playing every minute until he was sent off against Eintracht Frankfurt two weeks ago and has impressed many teams across Europe’s top divisions.

Spurs were apparently interested in signing him in January but Koln were unwilling to negotiate at that time. But now Wimmer reportedly flew to the English capital to agree terms with the Premier League giants and all that is now required is the two clubs to agree a fee.

With Federico Fazio not yet able to break his way into the North London side’s back-line and Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul both linked with moves away from White Hart Lane this transfer window, boss Mauricio Pochettino has identified Wimmer, who has made more than 50 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit, as the man the fill the defensive void.

Koln are currently in the depths of a relegation scrap in the Bundesliga and Spurs are confident of landing Wimmer, who can also play left-back, and bringing him to N17, regardless which division the club is in.
