Defences were on top at White Hart Lane as Hugo Lloris was once again the hero in between the sticks for Spurs.
The Frenchman sprang into action countless times as United pressed during a relentless first, notably to deny Robin van Persie when 1-on-1 and then a top-corner-bound effort from Ashley Young minutes before half time.
Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen had their work cut out as the formidable strikeforce of Van Persie and Falcao threatened to break the deadlock.

The game really came to the boil in the second period as Spurs began to create chances of their own thanks to the delivery of Christian Eriksen and restless work from Harry Kane.

The latter presented fellow youngster Ryan Mason with a golden chance to steal 3 points with just minutes remaining but he couldn’t keep his shot down from 6 yards as the breathless encounter finished goalless.

Player Ratings

Hugo Lloris 8 – The Boss once again. My Man of the Match for yet another inspired performance, with some of the saves of the season on show – especially from Young’s curler.

Vlad Chiriches 7 – Repaid the faith shown in him by Pochettino and settled the undoubted nerves felt by all when he was named ahead of Walker at right back. Coped well with Young and got forward in the second half.

Federico Fazio 7 – I’d go as far to say his best game in Spurs colours. Won everything in the air whether it be going forward or defending, and was unlucky to see his impressively technical volley saved by De Gea.

Jan Vertonghen 8 – Would have been my man of the match were it not for Hugo’s magic. Kept Van Persie and Falcao at bay throughout the game and read almost everything Mata and Rooney had to offer. Two goalline clearances.

Ben Davies 7 – Impressively mature display from the youngster, who is brilliantly defensively sound. Clever when going forward and kept substitute Rafael quiet.

Benjamin Stambouli 6 – Not sure he really fits the style of play we were going for as he wasn’t particularly efficient at protecting the back 4 alongside his creativity. Bentaleb should find his way back in soon, but not the worst game from Benji.

Ryan Mason 6 – A few misplaced touches here and there and DEFINITELY should have wrapped up our 3 points, but Mason was still ever present and ran tirelessly throughout.

Andros Townsend 7 – Excellent game from the surprise inclusion. Produced some magical balls from the right, especially his deft chip for Harry Kane in the first half.

Christian Eriksen 7 – Almost silent in the first 45 but came into his own in the second. Some awesome deliveries from dead balls and tested De Gea himself once or twice. Needed the ball at his feet more often.

Nacer Chadli 6 – Fairly quiet in my opinion but ran the channels well. Would have been better as a second half substitute as United’s legs tired as the game wore on but Chadli never unleashed his pace.

Harry Kane 7 – Great game from the young sensation even after his largely fruitless first half. During that spell he dropped deeper to help out a packed midfield but the second half saw him terrorise Phil Jones and create game winning chances.

Mousa Dembele 7 – Thought he was brilliant when he came on and held it up wonderfully.
