Hull manager Steve Bruce has shown his displeasure at the way his midfielder Gaston Ramirez was sent off in his sides’ 2-1 defeat to Tottenham. He slammed Jan Vertonghen for the way he went down in an off the ball incident that led to the assistant making the decision to send Ramirez off.

“He is a big strapping 6ft 2in centre-back and he is rolling around as if he has been poleaxed. That can’t be healthy for the Premier League.

“For me the reason the Barclays Premier League is loved around the world is the honesty of it, the integrity of it and the ferocity of it.

“He (Ramirez) has had a little tap at him it is a yellow card.

“The whole spectacle and result was ruined by that one incident.

“It is an act of petulance, it is not violent conduct.

“The linesman and the referee need to show a bit of common sense.”

Jamie Carragher also reacted to the red card, saying that the kick out was not even worthy of a yellow card, and the Liverpool legend claimed that this turned the game on its head and was a big factor in the final outcome of the match.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has said that the sending off had nothing to do with the final result. It was another late show from Spurs in front of  the away support to eventually snatch all three points after Christian Eriksen netted a late, late goal as the visitors came from behind for the second successive away match.
