Pochettino Looks To Sign Southampton Star

If there is something that Mauricio Pochettino has learned from the summer transfer window, it is that he will not be signing Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton. This does not stop the Argentine from attempting the link back up with Jay Rodriguez.

Despite the midfielder currently nursing a cruciate ligament injury, reports are emerging from The Telegraph that Pochettino will instruct Daniel Levy to make a January move for the highly rated England international.

Of course, Pochettino will know Rodriguez from his very successful Southampton days, and will want to link up with him after no deals materialized with Southampton over the summer, despite reports suggesting that it would be a Saints raid for Tottenham over the summer. The paper claim that Spurs will make a £15m bid.

Should this move happen, this could pave the way for Andros Townsend to Southampton. Reports suggest that the Saints and West Ham will battle it out for the youngster in January, and should Spurs sign Rodriguez, Townsend will be pushed even further down the pecking order for those three elusive attacking midfield Premier League spots. With extreme depth in these areas, the signing of Rodriguez would leave Spurs having to sell one player, this could well be Townsend. Is a swap deal possible?
