Transfers | Fresh Spurs - Part 26

Tottenham Defensive Ace Targeted By Liverpool

Liverpool are looking to sign Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen report The Metro. With a new contract for the Belgian at Spurs yet to be sorted out, and the saga dragging on since the summer transfer window, clubs will be looking to capitalise in January on the failure to commit the Belgian the football club beyond his current contract.

The tabloid claim that transfer talks are already underway with a deal expected to be completed in January. Reports suggest that Liverpool have spoken to the defender’s agent and are very confident that they can pull the deal off.

Despite the performance against Chelsea last week, Tim Sherwood has said that Vertonghen is a very good player and is very important to Tottenham.

Vertonghen has been linked with other moves away since the summer transfer window including a move to Manchester United. However, this is the closest report we have seen to the Belgian moving away from Spurs.

Southampton Stars Among Transfer Targets In Busy January Window

Since Mauricio Pochettino inherited this current Tottenham squad and as the season has gone on, it has become apparent that the Argentine simply doesn’t have the players to play the style of football that he wishes to play. This could lead to another upheaval and The Guardian claim that another upheaval could take place at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

It is believed that Pochettino will receive £20m to spend in the January transfer window, although this could raise to a much more superior figure once the head coach gets rid of the ‘dead wood’ that Spurs have littered around the squad.

After summer attempts to sign the Frenchman, Morgan Scneiderlin is one of Pochettino’s targets that he and Paul Mitchell have agreed on. Spurs could also make another move for Jay Rodriguez, potentially taking care of  their attacking interests. Raul Albiol is the third target that Totteenham will chase early in 2015. Paul Mitchell reportedly is a big fan of Virgil van Dijk, and new head of recruitment of analysis is keen to make a bid of around £8m.

It is clear that £20m is not enough to sign all three players, and The Guardian also report that Aaron Lennon, Jan Vertonghen, Mousa Dembele and Emmanuel Adebayor could all be on their way out of the White Hart Lane exit door in the new year.

Spurs Set To Make Move For Mexican Defender

Whilst Mauricio Pochettino looks to join up again with the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Scneiderlin, who he worked with at Southampton, the Argentine boss could make a move for Mexican defender Hector Moreno, who was signed by Pochettino at Espanyol.

Tottenham have really been struggling at the back this season and with Vlad Chiriches possibly looking for a way out of White Hart Lane in January after admitting he is not happy at Spurs due to his lack of playing time this season, the North Londoners could be looking at calling in some reinforcements, and Moreno could be one of them.

Moreno was the subject of great interest over the summer transfer window, with Lazio, Stuttgart and Manchester United all reportedly  interested before the defender broke his leg in Mexico’s World Cup campaign in Brazil. The 26 year-old is set to make his return from injury next week and Espanyol could well cash-in on him in the January transfer window. He is rated at £6m and a move looks likely after many reports have said that the La Liga club are to sell up in the new-year.

Pochettino Plans Major January Sale

With many fans criticising the transfer policy that Tottenham currently entertain, this policy could be set to change that the recruitment staff could be changed, with Paul Mitchell possibly joining up again with Mauricio Pochettino. However, to make room in the squad for these new targets, players will have to be sold. Reports suggest that Pochettino already has a very good idea about who he wants to offload in the January transfer window.

Reports claim that Aaron Lennon could be on his way out of the White Hart Lane, along with £17m Brazilian Paulinho and full-back Kyle Naughton. While you may question the sale of Lennon and Paulinho, you would feel that once DeAndre Yedlin signs, Kyle will be surplus to requirements, with him being the third choice right-back behind Kyle Walker, who started training again today, and Yedlin.

After some below-par performances, most notably against Besiktas in the Europa League, Vlad Chiriches is also believed the be on the list along with Andros Townsend, and £26m striker Roberto Soldado.

Mousa Dembele could be the final player to go after he said that he was not getting answers from Mauricio Pochettino as to why he was not getting a lot of playing time. The Belgian has also been linked with a move away.

In their places could come failed 2014 summer targets Mateo Musacchio, Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez as Pochettino looks to reunite with players he worked with at Southampton should he wish be Daniel Levy’s command.

Pochettino Looks To Sign Southampton Star

If there is something that Mauricio Pochettino has learned from the summer transfer window, it is that he will not be signing Morgan Schneiderlin from Southampton. This does not stop the Argentine from attempting the link back up with Jay Rodriguez.

Despite the midfielder currently nursing a cruciate ligament injury, reports are emerging from The Telegraph that Pochettino will instruct Daniel Levy to make a January move for the highly rated England international.

Of course, Pochettino will know Rodriguez from his very successful Southampton days, and will want to link up with him after no deals materialized with Southampton over the summer, despite reports suggesting that it would be a Saints raid for Tottenham over the summer. The paper claim that Spurs will make a £15m bid.

Should this move happen, this could pave the way for Andros Townsend to Southampton. Reports suggest that the Saints and West Ham will battle it out for the youngster in January, and should Spurs sign Rodriguez, Townsend will be pushed even further down the pecking order for those three elusive attacking midfield Premier League spots. With extreme depth in these areas, the signing of Rodriguez would leave Spurs having to sell one player, this could well be Townsend. Is a swap deal possible?

Tottenham Close In On Free Agent And Former Real Madrid Midfielder

French newspaper L’Equipe claim that Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign former Chelsea and Arsenal midfielder Lassana Diarra on a free transfer.

The holding midfielder is currently without a club after his contract expired at Lokomotiv Moscow. Spurs also face competition to sign Diarra from French club Marseille, who currently top the Ligue 1 table by four points.

The 29 year old had agreed to join Harry Redknapp’s Queens Park Rangers, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League table, in the summer transfer window, and successfully completed a medical ahead of the move, only for the deal to fall through in the final stages.

Other reports say that Diarra will receive a ulcerative weekly pay packet on top of a number of tempting bonuses if he moves back to North London.

However, you would be led to believe that Diarra may not want to join Tottenham due to their massive squad depth and especcially strong depth in the holding midfield positions. Already at the club, Mauricio Pochettino has the likes of Moussa Demebele, Benjamin Stambouli, Etienne Capoue and more recently, Ryan Mason at his disposal.

Tottenham are the closest to sealing a deal for the Frenchman, but do not rule out Diarra returning to his homeland to join Marseille.

10 Transfer Deadline Day Signings That Could Happen

It could be a busy transfer deadline day at Tottenham! Here are ten transfers that could potentially happen at Spurs on this annual day of madness!

1) Benjamin Stambouli
Reports suggested on Friday night that the current Montpellier holding midfielder was set to join Tottenham in a £4.7m deal. The French club even posted it on their official Twitter account! Rumours gathered momentum once again yesterday as Stambouli was reportadly spotted at White Hart Lane during Tottenham’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

2) Danny Welbeck
The current Manchester United striker has been linked with a move away from the club, but Louis Van Gaal has neither denied or confirmed reports that Welbeck will leave the club this summer. Reports last night claimed that that Spurs had agreed a loan deal with United, the deal believed to be worth £2m.

3) Jay Rodriguez
The attack minded midfielder has been linked with a move to Spurs ever since the appointment of Mauricio Pochettino. Papers claimed last night that Spurs are to offer £14m plus Andros Townsend for the England international. The former Burnley man is still months away from playing after picking an injury in April against Manchester City, but he says the recovery is going well.

4) Matija Nastasic
The Sun report that enquires have been made by both North-London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal. The paper understand that the defender is set to make a choice of either clubs today. The centre-back appears to not be in the manager’s plans for this season.

5) Sandro
The Daily Mail reported last night that QPR are very close to sealing a season long loan for the Brazilian. It was believed that Napoli and other Italian clubs were interested in the holding midfielder. It was reported that Sandro is not in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans, fuelling speculation that he will move away from White Hart Lane this summer.

6) Lewis Holtby
The German has been previously linked with a move back to his old club Schalke 04, but those rumours seemed to have fizzled out. New reports say that Everton are interested, but Hamburger SV seem to have beaten them to it, with Holtby set to have a medical with the German club today. The clubs Sporting Director has confirmed it, saying that he will have a medical.

7) Andros Townsend
As I mentioned earlier, Townsend has been linked with an involvement in a deal for Jay Rodriguez. In addition to this, the England international has been linked with many other clubs in the Premier League. Either way, he could be on his way out of White Hart Lane and could’ve made his last appearance yesterday.

8) Roberto Soldado
The Independent reported last night that Spurs are set to listen to offers for Roberto Soldado. In the past few weeks, the former Valencia striker has been linked mainly with moves to Italy and previously reports have claimed that Spurs tried to sign Mattia Destro, throwing Soldado in with any potential deal.

9) Aaron Lennon
A journalist at Sky Sports has claimed that QPR are close to sealing a loan swoop for the English winger. It could be a deadline day Spurs steal for QPR as they are also interested in signing Brazilian midfielder ‘The Beast’ Sandro. Lennon has not fitted into the Pochettino system particularly well so far.

10) Zeki Fryers
Sky Sports report that youngster Zeki Fryers is set to complete a move to Crystal Palace today after reports have suggested this move for a couple of weeks now. Crystal Palace’s defence needs strengthening after conceding three at the weekend away to Newcastle. It is unclear however, if Fryers is for now or for the future.

Sale At Tottenham! Pochettino Puts Eleven Players Up For Sale

The Telegraph claim that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino has put eleven players up for sale for this window in an attempt to reduce the Tottenham squad to twenty-five players ahead of the new season. New man Pochettino said a few days ago that the squad is too big and he will reduce the number of players at Spurs by the end of the window.

The Telegraph also claim that they know who these players are and say that they will be sold if the price is right. Here is the list of those players up for sale.
Andros Townsend
Aaron Lennon
Roberto Soldado
Michael Dawson
Beniot Assou-Ekotto
Kyle Naughton
Vlad Chiriches
Nacer Chadli
Moussa Dembele

There are many question we can ask now. For example, ‘does this spell the end for Roberto Soldado?’ This list may indicate that Soldado is not in Pochettino’s plans for this season, even if he isn’t sold.

It is very likely that all these players will get sold, it will most likely be five to seven of them, but this list does give us some indication as to who has nailed down their first-team spots at Tottenham.
