Gareth Bale to Tottenham update: Levy travels to Madrid to seal audacious deadline day deal

Well well well, it wouldn’t be transfer deadline day without a link to Gareth Bale now would it. The Welshman is clearly not happy in Madrid and reports suggest that Daniel Levy and Jose Mourinho will try and get him back today!

And the initial report comes from a reliable source in The Times, who say that they can reveal Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy travelled to Madrid for talks with Real president Florentino Pérez in an attempt to sign Bale before the deadline at 11pm tonight.

The players £500,000 per week wages at Madrid currently will surely cause issues for Levy and surely a deal would be too complex at this stage.

And our suspicions have been confirmed by Zinedine Zidane who according to Sky Sports, today said: “Gareth is here with us and I am counting on him. I am not contemplating this possibility.”

Of course we can’t take everything said on Deadline Day as gospel, things can change quickly and this is certainly a story that we will be keeping a close eye on today.

Bale is now 30 but clearly has a lot of talent and a lot left to offer. During his 6 years at Spurs, the player managed 42 goals in 146 games, despite starting out as a left-back. For Madrid he’s averaging nearly a goal every other game, with 80 goals in 167 appearances.
