Tottenham eye exciting midfield trio as Poch looks for Eriksen replacements

Cristian Eriksen looks set to leave the club either in January or at the end of the season, and the latest rumours suggest that the North London club will be in the market for replacements.

We’ve already explored some potential solutions to Eriksen’s departure, but rumours have emerged of some new targets.

The source that links Spurs to all three of Lorenzo Pellegrini, Brais Mendez and Hakim Ziyech is the Guardian. We decided to take a closer look at where these rumours had come from.

Firstly Ziyech. On the face of it he appears a natural replacement from Eriksen. Natural on the wings or as a number 10, Ziyech would bring attacking flair to Spurs. And that could be why 90Min have claimed as an exclusive, that Ziyech forms part of a shortlist to replace Eriksen.

They also claim in the same report that Celta Vigo midfielder Brais Mendez forms part of that shortlist. Mendez was widely regarded as a top young midfielder about 12 months ago, but since he has struggled to nail down a place in the team and the transfer interest had faded. I’m not sure he is ready for the Premier League.

Finally we took a closer look into the rumours linking central midfielder Pellegrini with a move. This seemed a little less natural and obvious given the Roma midfielder tends to play in a deeper midfield role, a position where Spurs have already significantly strengthened by adding Ndombele and Lo Celso in the summer. This link comes from Calcio Mercato, who suggest that Spurs are ready to present a £42million offer for the midfielder. We will see how that one develops.

Out of the three, which would you like to see arrive?
