Spurs Eye Move For Free-Scoring Sensation If Llorente Deal Falls Through

If Spurs’ attempts to sign Fernando Llorente do not pay off, they could sign young free-scoring sensation Moussa Dembele to provide competition for Harry Kane.

Tottenham, like many other Premier League clubs last summer, were interested in securing the striker’s services, but he chose to move to Scottish Champions Celtic, where he has proved to be a revelation, scoring on 32 occasions last season alone.

Following a sensational season in the Scottish Premiership, Mauricio Pochettino has reignited his interest in the striker. French football journalist Manu Lonjon claimed on Twitter that Spurs and Dembele representitives have held talks twice over a potential late move to North London.

The lack of competition for Harry Kane became evident last summer, so Spurs drafted in Vincent Janssen from AZ Alkmaar for £17m to provide backup for the England international. After a positive start, it looked like only a matter of time before Janssen started finding the net.

However, the Dutchman has netted just once from open play since his arrival, and is experiencing similar problems to those experienced by misfit Roberto Soldado a couple of years ago, who incidentally also worse the number nine shirt.

With Spurs keen to find a replacement for Janssen, his time at Spurs looks like it could come to a premature end. Stoke and West Brom are both reportedly interested in taking on the striker, but a loan move remains a possibility on transfer deadline day.

The move for Dembele might only happen if Spurs fail to secure Fernando Llorente from Swansea. The Lilywhites have just had a bid accepted for the Spaniard, believed to be around £15m. Llorente scored 15 goals last season for Swansea and Spurs will be chuffed with themselves if they managed to steal Chelsea’s target from under their noses.

Who would you rather see join Spurs, Fernando Llorente or Moussa Dembele?
