This is a transfer story that has been brewing for the whole of the summer transfer window, but will Spurs get a deal over the line before Thursday’s 11pm deadline?
Barkley has refused to sign a new contract with the Toffees, and manager Ronald Koeman was adamant earlier this summer that the England international would be leaving Goodison Park. However, the Dutchman has since admitted that there is a chance Barkley could still be an Everton player beyond Thursday.
Spurs have been the favourites all summer to sign Barkley while there have been suggestions that Arsenal could make a move for the Englishman. Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly very keen on making Barkley a Tottenham player. However, there are a couple of factors stopping the move going through.
First there is the price. Everton have been holding out for close to £40m, but Spurs are more likely to pay around the £25m-£30m mark. Also, Barkley is out of action through a hamstring injury at the moment. Barkley is out of contract next year, so Spurs are undecided whether to buy Barkley now and be without him for most of 2017 or gamble and pave the way for others to secure his signature according to Standard Sport.
