Tottenham’s Transfer Window Goes From Bad To Worse As Star Man Wants Out

Tottenham remain the only club not to make any signings so far in this summer transfer window and fans will at least be hoping that they retain all key players before the start of the new Premier League season.

That might be easier said than done. Kyle Walker has already left Spurs for Manchester City this summer in a move worth up to £50m, and one would remain hopeful that he would be the only high-profile name leaving Hotspur Way in the near future. That would seem a realistic target, but might not become a reality.

We read numerous reports that Tottenham have no interest in selling Eric Dier to anybody this summer. Mauricio Pochettino has seen Dier’s leadership skills grow over the last season or so, and this is a quality the Argentine boss does not want to lose this summer.

Dier’s versatility has proved important for Spurs, and it will continue to be if he stays at the club. Pochettino likes to tinker with formations, sometimes in-game. Dier being able to play as a part of a back three as well as in defensive midfield, it makes switching formations very easy.

Tottenham’s tough transfer stance so far in the Dier transfer saga has reportedly not changed the player’s feelings regarding where he wants to play his football next season and remains ‘desperate’ to join Manchester United, claim Manchester Evening News on Friday afternoon.

Dier was a United fan as a young boy, and his desire to work with Jose Mourinho only adds to the attraction of a move to Old Trafford. Not to mention the fact that the England international could potentially double the current £70,000-per-week he is on at Spurs.

Jose Mourinho has identified the defensive midfield as an area that needs strengthening over the summer, and Eric Dier seems to be a perfect target for United. They could submit a bid upwards of £50m if they are to press on with plans to sign Dier.

It is very important that Spurs hold onto Eric Dier and ensure that he is a Tottenham player when the transfer window slams shut at the end of August. By refusing any bid that comes in from the Red Devils, Spurs should be able to do this without to much difficulty. However, if Dier starts to push for a transfer, then we have a problem.

Will Eric Dier be a Manchester United player at the end of the transfer window?
