Reports from Manchester Evening News state that Eric Dier is ‘desperate’ for a move to Manchester United this summer transfer window. Rumours have intensified in recent days and weeks regarding Dier’s potential transfer to Old Trafford, and the player’s desire to join the Red Devils has intensified amid the increased speculation.

Despite Spurs telling Jose Mourinho that Dier will not be sold under any circumstances this summer, the midfielder is still the subject of much interest and there is hope for Mourinho that the player himself could force Tottenham into a sale that could be worth as much as £50m.

Dier has proved to be an invaluable player for Spurs despite suffering a slight dip in form in the middle of last season, and is increasingly becoming a strong leader in the dressing room, something Mauricio Pochettino is reluctant to lose ahead of the new Premier League season. The Englishman is also part of Pochettino’s long-term plans and the Spurs boss has no doubts in his mind that it will stay that way when the transfer window slams shut at the end of next month.

It has also been Dier’s versatility that has made him such a valuable player to Spurs. The 23-year-old can play in a back three and has the capabilities to fill a role in the central midfield. Dier has shown how simply he can switch between the two different roles, and this has proved important for Mauricio Pochettino when making in-game formation and tactical changes.

It appears that Kyle Walker will be leaving the club for Manchester City, and now Dele Alli has been the subject of transfer rumours linking him with a move to European giants Barcelona. The Spanish club missed out on the La Liga title last season by three points to rivals Real Madrid and are looking for a new midfielder to make a title charge next season.

The Daily Star report that both Neymar and Lionel Messi are very keen for Alli to join Barcelona this summer after an impressive Premier League season just gone with Spurs. Having been such a key player for Spurs, they will be more than reluctant to let the Englishman leave.

It is unlikely that either Dier or Alli will leave Spurs this summer, but it is another summer of unwanted speculation. Despite being told he is not for sale, Mourinho will remain intent on unsettling Dier, and the same goes for Alli. It will be interesting to see how the two players cope with the ongoing speculation when the new season kicks off in just a few weeks.
