Pochettino Insists This Spurs Outcast Will Not Be Leaving The Club This Summer

It is far from unfair to say that Moussa Sissoko’s debut season at White Hart Lane did not quite to plan. The Frenchman spent most of the season getting splinters in his backside, but it appears that he will be playing his football (if that’s what you want to call it) at Tottenham next season.

We all remember the dramatic circumstances in which Sissoko completed his deadline day move to Spurs, turning off his phone to stop Everton officials calling him about a proposed medical in Merseyside. The move was completed was minutes to spare, and Daniel Levy must regret forking out £30m to bring Sissoko to North London.

It looked like nothing more than a huge panic buy to me at the time, a record-breaking panic buy to be precise. Sissoko remains Tottenham’s record signing to date, surpassing the £26m paid for Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.

Sissoko did not have a record-breaking impact that is for sure. Here we are, nearly a year on from his move from Newcastle reading reports that Sissoko’s Tottenham nightmare might be coming to an end. Everton are reportedly interested in a loan deal, what they still see in him I do not know. Clubs in France are interested, and West Brom is another name that has been thrown into the mix recently.

The 27-year-old will be keen to get regular first team football next season with a World Cup just around the corner, remaining keen to represent France in Russia next year. I would like to think that this first team football would not come at Tottenham having witnessed the shambolic nature of Sissoko’s performances last season. However, it looks like the former Newcastle man’s future lies at Spurs under the management of Mauricio Pochettino.

Sissoko has not travelled with the rest of the Spurs squad to the pre-season tour of America as he missed out with a ‘virus’, fuelling speculation that he might have played his last game in a Spurs shirt. However, speculation looks like it might draw to a close as Mauricio Pochettino has now explained that Sissoko is in the Argentine’s plans for next season, which begins in just a few weeks time. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Pochettino said.

Sissoko is training with Erik Lamela and Heung-min Son back home and they are all at different levels so we will see in the next few weeks the evolution for every one. He’s a member of our squad and he’s in my plans for the season and for us he is still a member of the squad.

So, it appears to be the case that Sissoko will still be a Tottenham player by the end of the transfer window. What Pochettino and his staff see in him must be special, but at the moment I am barely seeing a footballer capable of succeeding at the top level.
