3 Fringe Players That Could Break Through For Spurs Next Season

3) Vincent Janssen

Janssen arrived at Spurs for £17m last season and worse the seemingly cursed number nine shirt last season given the success (or lack of success) of £26m Roberto Soldado, who also worse the number nine in his time at White Hart Lane.

The Dutchman scored just once in the Premier League from open play, and that was a tap-in at 3-0 up in the last minute against Bournemouth, hardly satisfactory for your first season in the Premier League I think it is fair to say. The 23-year-old made 38 appearances for Spurs in all competitions last season, netting six times and providing 4 assists.

However, there is hope for Janssen. Countless times we have seen players fail in their first season in England, and then bounce back in their second season to bring some success. Janssen’s hold up play has been strong so far, but his play has been basic at times and I feel that he needs to take more risks. It all comes down to one thing for me, and that is confidence.

If Janssen gets a good pre-season behind him and bags a few goals early doors, his confidence will rise and so will his form. There has been rumours flying around linking him with a move away from Spurs, but I hope he stays as his chance to succeed in the Premier League certainly has not passed him by.
