Spurs Rejected Late Deadline Day Approach For This Man, Were They Right To Do So?

The Dutchman has yet to score from open play in a Spurs shirt, but has converted on four occasions from the spot this season, the latest of those coming in the 4-3 win over Wycombe.

The £17m summer signing has not started for Spurs since the 2-0 FA Cup win over Aston Villa, but did seem to have a positive impact on proceedings when he came off the bench at half-time against League Two Wycombe, not only scoring from the spot, but providing the assist for Heung-min Son’s late winner.

Vincent Janssen’s agent Louis Laros, speaking to ESPN confirmed that there seemed to be some truth to these reports that Galatasaray had interest in signing the Dutchman on the loan, but the striker’s agent appeared adamant that Janssen would not be leaving, and that turned out to be the case.

Absolutely not happening! Janssen is not joining Galatasaray, they may want him but he is not leaving. Janssen will of course stay at Tottenham, he is not going anywhere.

The lack of involvement in the January transfer window in terms of signing a striker would seem that Mauricio Pochettino has far from given up on Janssen, despite the Dutchman failing to hit anywhere near top form since joining the club in the summer.

Were Spurs right to reject the approach from Galatasaray?

Absolutely. Of course they were. We cannot judge a player that has come from a foreign league in their first six months at the club, and I am sure that Janssen has so much more to offer for Spurs than is currently on show. He quite clearly has the talent to succeed, but not the confidence at this moment in time.

A loan move might have been beneficial for Janssen if he had started scoring in his time in Turkey. He would have returned to White Hart Lane on a high, and ready to make another go of it in the Premier League. However, if he failed to find his shooting boots, where would that have left the 23-year-old?

Looking at the rest of the season, Spurs are still involved in the FA Cup and Europa League as well as the Premier League. The fixtures will soon start to pile up for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, and Janssen will get lots of first team chances for sure. He is still an important part of the Spurs squad, and Spurs got this one spot on not to let him move away on loan.
