Notice a trend now? Reports seem to suggest that Spurs are out in the market for a new attacking midfielder, and it is the Daily Mirror that are linking Spurs with a January move for Real Madrid midfielder Isco, who they have been monitoring for a while now.

The Spaniard has been starved of regular game time this season, having only lasted the full ninety minutes on only two occasions this season. Isco did indicate that he wanted to stay and fight for his place at Real Madrid, but could be tempted with a move away in the New Year.

Spurs are at risk of a fixture pile-up over January and February and could need the extra squad depth to cope, and signing players early on in the window in preparation for this will please Mauricio Pochettino if it happens. The Mirror claim that Real Madrid have offered Isco a new contract, but before the Spaniard makes any commitments, he will look at the options available to him. This hesitancy could see Spurs pounce and make their move in January.

Again, we ask the question, would Isco be an upgrade on Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli? Based on averages per game, Isco does in fact provide more assists than Dele Alli and nearly as many as Christian Eriksen, Isco does seem less creative. On average, he creates less chances and completes fewer key passes than both Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen. Looking at those figures, Isco wouldn’t be an upgrade, but he certainly is worth a try though in my opinion as he is a very talented player.
