Spurs saw their attempts to sign Max Meyer last summer thwarted by German club Schalke, and according to Sport Bild, Mauricio Pochettino is still keen on the German youngster, but might have to pay a lot of money to secure his services.

Having made an approach in the summer, Spurs will know how hard it will be to get this deal over the line, but like with the potential Barkley transfer, a strong bid of £30m, which is what Schalke are hoping to receive for Meyer, should make for quicker negotiations.

Like Ross Barkley, Max Meyer is an attacking midfielder, and at the age of just 21, there is lots of room for improvement, and the German has impressed many with his displays at such a young age. Mauricio Pochettino loves to work with young players, and I am sure he will enjoy the task of getting the very best out of the German if he were to sign for Spurs.

However, like Barkley, I start to question whether Meyer would really bring anything different to Spurs, or be an upgrade an either Christian Eriksen or Dele Alli, who can both operate just behind the striker. Just take a look at the figures. Christian Eriksen has created 47 chances, Meyer has created 13. Eriksen had made 42 key passes, Meyer just 13. Eriksen has provided five assists, Meyer none. £30m seems a lot of money for a player that has not registered a single assist in the Bundesliga so far this season.
