3 Reasons Why Spurs Must Avoid Signing This German Youngster In January

Schalke yongster Max Meyer confirmed during the week that Spurs had shown interest in his services, but the German club blocked any potential move to White Hart Lane a few months ago.

Reports have suggested that Spurs along with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool could return for the 21-year-old and make an offer they cannot refuse. But here are three reasons why Spurs could avoid Max Meyer from Schalke in the New Year.

1) He does not create enough chances

If you are looking at signing an attacking midfielder, you are looking for that man to be extremely influential goimg forward, creating chances for fellow midfielders and the front men. Looking at the stats from last season, Meyer does not look to be the man that can do that.

Looking at the stats from last season, Meyer scored five goals and chipped in with six assists in 32 games for Schalke, a return in my opinion nowhere near worth the reported £21.5m clubs are reported to be prepared to pay.

Christian Eriksen scored on six occasions in the Premier League last season, making 13 further goals. Dele Alli score ten and made nine last term. It was not a case of strikers not taking chances for Meyer last season, he created 45 chances, much less than Eriksen. The Dane managed to create 114 chances in 35 Premier League appearances last season, so looking at those stats, Max Meyer doesn’t appear to be an upgrade on what Spurs already have.
