Mario Gotze’s availability and price tag is very rare in this modern market and despite his career stuttering over the last two seasons, his quality is there for all to see. At £15million he’d be a good signing for any club, but are Tottenham the right club for him? According to The Mirror Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund are leading the race to sign Mario Gotze. Although The Mail report that Tottenham have not yet made an official approach for the German midfielder – Spurs have been regularly linked with a bid since Bild reported that the North London based club were favourites to land him. Gotze, now 24, perhaps peaked too early in his footballing career, scoring the World Cup winning goal and joining Bayern Munich a few years ago. In his early 20’s and as a teenager he played his best football to date, without any weight of expectation and the freedom to do what he does best, he was dubbed ‘the next Messi’ whilst working under Jurgen Klopp at Borussia Dortmund. Like Sissoko, it would be important for Pocchettino to try and get Gotze into the correct mental state in order to get the best out of him. He dazzled in a number 10 role for Dortmund and that may be where he needs to play again to once again get to the highest level.
