4 Reasons Why Spurs Can Beat Arsenal, Man Utd, Chelsea and Man City To Title

4 – Strong Defensive Unit

The central defensive partnership of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld proved to be a very effective one last season, and Spurs boasted the joint best defensive record last season, conceding a total of 35 Premier League goals along with Manchester United, on average less than one goal per game.

If you take away the Newcastle disaster on the final day of the season, Spurs conceded just 30 goals in 37 games, which is an extremely impressive defensive record. As well as Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen forming a good partnership at the back, Kevin Wimmer proved to be good backup last season.

The full-backs last term proved to be an integral part of the Spurs attack, in addition to defence last season, making surging forward runs with great attacking intent. Kyle Walker and Danny Rose were regular starters, but Kieran Trippier and Ben Davies also pulled their weight when they were played by Pochettino.
