Tottenham are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Barcelona defender Bartra this summer, who is available for just €8million after having his release clause lowered.

The interest in Bartra is a strange one, with Tottenham having three solid central defensive options. But the ball-playing central defender would add a new dimension to the Spurs squad, perhaps allowing them to play with three central defenders and utilise the strengths of their attacking wing backs.

Bartra, 25 has started just 4 La Liga games for Barcelona this season and is now looking to leave the club in search of regular first team football. The Spaniard has been patient, waiting for his chance throughout his youth years but at his age, it is time to give up on the dream of becoming a regular at Barcelona and move on. Despite his lack of first team exposure, Bartra has racked up 9 caps for Spain and his quality is there for all to see.

But whilst Spurs have Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Kevin Wimmer at the club, it seems unlikely the player will want to make the switch to North London. Liverpool and Valencia have also been linked and considering the first team assurances they could both probably offer, it seems unlikely that Spurs will sign Bartra this summer, unless of course something is leaving?..
