With the top of the Premier League too close to call, Tottenham cannot be ruled out in what is turning out to be one of the strangest title races in recent history.
In fact, Spurs actually have the advantage over their title rivals in many areas. Here are four of the main reasons.
1 – No Champions League
Yes Tottenham have to play in the Europa League, but the quality of opponent is much lower than in the Champions League, which will allow Mauricio Pochettino to rest key players if he felt a winning the title was realistic. Whilst Arsenal are due to play Barcelona and Manchester City will have to travel to Ukraine, Spurs play Fiorentina in the next round. If City or Arsenal progress, they are likely to face a team of immense quality, whilst Spurs could reach the final of the Europa League without meeting any of the best clubs in Europe – putting less stress on the squad. The extra focus Tottenham can afford to place on the Premier League could be a decisive factor as the title race enters its final stages.
